The Empowerment

I want to inspire girls all over the world the way I was inspired when I met this girl little Dorcas. She is a third grader in Koboko, Uganda. I met her while on a missions trip to help orphans. I arrived with the idea that I would teach her about my language, my life, and my faith but I was so wrong. Although I'm sure I did teach her some I was so shocked by all that she had to teach me. I learned so much about how people around her live. She was so willing to serve and was filled with so much compassion.

I also learned from many other people at the aide base I was living at. A woman named Sally worked there to care for the orphans. She administered medication and cleaned wounds. She was so patient and kind yet strong. The resources she had were specifically for orphans and she had the strenghth to turn down others in need to make sure she was being a good steward of what she had. She was also an amazing singer and taught me some beautiful songs in Swahili with Tom another man who worked at the base. Tom was a singer and songwriter. He already has a few songs on Ugandan radio, but he spends his time working with the orphan choir teaching them about music, playing, and singing for them. I was so blessed by the beautiful songs the choir sang for us. They had written personal songs for their American visitors and it truly touched my heart.

As we took trips out to see other parts of the town I learned so much from observing at churchs and markets. My team was especially privalleged to be able to visit a small community of women who had once been rrebel fighters in the bush. These woman had made peace with the Uganda government in exchange for a small piece of land. Once huts were built these woman moved in together and now they make crafts and farm to sell. They money they make they use to support eachother. They were so joyful and inspired me with their close fellowship.

As you can see I was very impacted by my short three-week trip to Uganda. I want my friends and Dorcas' friends to be impacted by people from across the globe as well. This is why I would love to start a co-mentorship program between girls ages14 to 22. These girls would not only have an amazing friendship, but this would also open up their eyes to a completly new way of living and thinking.

Hello everyone,
